It's crazy the amount of fruit my trees are producing right now. Five years with nothing and now I'm giving away fruit. The grapefruits are all coming ripe at the same time as will the Kumquats. The Tangerine tree is still going nuts but I've been making in roads on that tree. I still have a Tangerine Chicken that I will post and a Tangerine Mousse. So much citrus, so little time. The plums are starting to bud out on the tree too. In another 2 months or so I will be swimming in plums. Lots more recipes with those. In the meantime, be prepared for more grapefruit recipes. I've been drinking the Salty Dog (though we call it something else) for years with just store bought grapefruit juice, the pink stuff. Since the grapefruits have become ripe here, this is my new way and the only way I will prepare it now. This is so, so much better than the store bought stuff. The other plus, I blend mine. I don't know why my brain thinks it's better but it does and now it's the only way that I can drink it. You can make this with just fresh grapefruit juice and not make the syrup but you will need to add some sugar to it otherwise it is just way too tart. Made me pucker up big time. This is a great summer drink as well. Image, sitting outside on the porch, birds and singing and you are sipping this. Hmmmmm.
Hope you enjoy!
